The second “Night Tour of the World” Innovation Cultural Tourism Industry Forum of the 2020 Boao Cultural and Creative Week explored the current development status and future trends of China’s night tourism economy.

1.Summit Forum

Wang Xuechen, Vice President of Fengshang Century Culture Media Company

Carry out the right actions in the right time and place, draw on some excellent technical concepts from major activities, and always advocate innovation and specific methods across different fields. With such a restart concept in place, our resonance and our bright future are right before us.

Ge Shuiying, the chairman of Zhongke Vision Company

Night tours are not merely tourism. Night tours are a way for us to open up this world and traverse through time and space using sound, light, electricity and various technologies. This is the significant value of night tours.

Shao Bin, the director of Beijing Sanseeshi Design Institute

The demand for night tours in the Chinese market is extremely high. It has its own clear requirements. Firstly, there needs to be a large number of visitors. Secondly, it must be able to generate revenue. Thirdly, it needs to have the ability for continuous improvement.

Zhang Xin, an associate professor at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University

As a lighting designer, when I see it during the day, I feel that everything should be illuminated. In reality, it’s impossible to illuminate everything as it would be difficult to maintain and the lamps themselves are ugly. Therefore, some simplification is necessary. In lighting, the brightest parts are inside the core, and the closest thing to you is not necessarily the brightest one.

Li Quansheng, the director of the Lighting Research Institute of China Municipal Engineering North China Institute

Nighttime tours are shaped by the following four elements. First, there are innovative art installations. Second, they activate immersive experiences. Third, they create personalized IPs. Fourth, they explore diverse integration. Fifth, they combine with media.

Jiang Rong, the founder of Shansheng Cultural Tourism Company

The night tour project is not merely the combination of cultural content and lighting scenes; it needs to go deeper. For the front-end operation, we need to incorporate a time element into the design. We also need a design that combines time and space.

2.Hongyu Discussion Roundtable Forum

Zhou Fan

Night outings should be decided based on the circumstances and enjoyed according to the time.

Ye Hai

The understanding of night tours is how we can make a project or a device visually impactful, audibly impactful, and provide an immersive experience.

Xu Ning

Why doesn’t the night tourism economy make money? One misconception is that the larger the investment and the more fancy the facilities, the more profitable it will be. But this is actually wrong. One must understand the consumption psychology of the Chinese people: if it’s not novel, not eye-catching, not attractive, not spread, and not a bargain, then they won’t spend. All night tourism projects fail to address this issue. When Chinese people travel, there are only a few situations where they will pay: first, for praying and burning incense; second, for hoping their children succeed; third, for giving gifts to their girlfriends. Therefore, whether an investment project can make money depends on how much content it has in common with these points.

He Wenliang

The two aspects of tourism planning are the experience itself and the operation. From the perspective of the experience, there must be a sense of participation and interaction for people to be willing to go there and stay. In terms of operation, it is necessary to ensure that this project has long-term value output and can bring economic returns, which is the feasible business model.

Best wishes to Yaling

The night tourism economy is based on a reasonable business model and starts with the creation of customer value.

Wang Zhijun

Now the dancers are moving towards the cultural tourism industry, the lighting experts are moving towards it as well, and architecture, gardens, and tourism are all converging towards this area. This is a rather broad and narrow path. How should this path be interpreted? The original designers in the cultural tourism field need to take the lead in innovation and avoid copying. Because there are too many forms in this industry, and the main body of tourism consumers – young people – are prone to forget, so innovation is very important.

Guangdong Hongyu Lighting Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. chairman Chenzeyun

The conference venue was fully occupied.

Through this forum, participants discussed the current focal points, hotspots and directional issues related to urban lighting, as well as the changes and impacts that urban night lighting brings to cities, as well as the value it generates. The entire forum was filled with a lively atmosphere, rich content, and intense debate, presenting a variety of captivating aspects.
