In the heart of Shenzhen’s bustling Longhua District, where urban innovation meets natural serenity, a transformative cultural beacon has emerged: the Longhua District Library, Community Arts Center, and Grand Theater—affectionately known as the “Three Venues.” Spanning 185,000㎡ on the tranquil shores of Luhu Lake, this 2023 masterpiece weaves architecture, landscape, and community into a seamless tapestry. As Guangdong Hongyu Lighting Engineering Construction Co., Ltd., we were honored to illuminate this municipal gem, turning its “forgotten edges” into a glowing symphony of ordered urban poetry that invites reflection, creativity, and connection.Design Vision: Light as Cultural Dialogue
Drawing from the project’s ethos of integrating mountains, waters, and built forms into an inclusive figure-ground narrative, our illumination strategy embodies “serene convergence”—a layered lighting language that fosters unity and quietude:
- Waterfront Embrace – “Reflective Corridor”: The venues unfold toward Luhu Lake, where soft, diffused 3000K linear pathway lights and submerged LED uplights trace the shared waterfront promenade. This creates a shimmering mirror effect on the water, enhancing the organic interplay between architecture and nature while guiding evening visitors through experiential zones without disrupting the lakeside calm.
- Functional Fusion – “Interwoven Glow”: The north-to-south procession of the Grand Theater (with its 1,400-seat grandeur), Arts Center, and Library is accentuated by subtle vertical grazing on curtain walls and interstitial accents that highlight their compositional dialogue. Warm amber tones (2800K) in communal spaces evoke intimacy for lectures and rehearsals, transitioning to cooler neutrals (4000K) in the library for focused reading— all while enclosing courtyards in a gentle, enclosing luminescence that blurs indoor-outdoor boundaries.
- Skyline Serenity – “Elevated Harmony”: Atop the four-story ensemble, rooftop lanterns and subtle crown lighting form a low-key beacon, syncing with lunar cycles via astronomical controls to minimize light spill and preserve the site’s mountainous backdrop. This ensures the complex stands as a serene cultural anchor amid Shenzhen’s high-tech horizon.

By night, the Three Venues transcend their 48,000㎡ site, resolving urban fragmentation through light that unifies diverse programs—from the 600-seat medium theater’s dramatic entrances to the underground garage’s efficient wayfinding—into a cohesive, tranquil public realm.Technical Brilliance
- Over 3,500 energy-efficient LED fixtures, including RGB-capable linear washers and smart bollards, delivering 100–180 lx for immersive yet glare-free environments.
- DMX512-integrated system with 12 adaptive scenes (performance peaks, quiet reading hours, eco-night mode), tied to ambient sensors and occupancy data for 45% energy reduction in Shenzhen’s variable subtropical weather.
- High-IP-rated, anti-corrosion optics (>95 CRI) withstand coastal humidity, with full recyclability supporting the project’s green urban agenda and remote diagnostics for effortless maintenance.
- Seamless integration with the site’s 2-level subterranean elements, ensuring safe, intuitive navigation for the 399-seat small theater crowds or international conference attendees.
As dusk settles over Luhu, the Longhua Triad glows not as isolated venues but as a living cultural organism—fostering community arts, knowledge-sharing, and grand performances in a space that’s as restorative as it is inspiring. It’s a testament to how thoughtful lighting can heal urban divides, much like the project heals the “forgotten boundaries” of its landscape. At Guangdong Hongyu Lighting Engineering Construction Co., Ltd., we craft illumination that doesn’t just reveal spaces; it reveals stories, inviting all to linger in the light.Project: Longhua District Library, Arts Center, and Grand Theater Illumination
